The Songs of Abe

Listen up. I'm only going to say this once.

I reserved a spot on download.com. For quite a while I've wished I had an easy way to disseminate songs to far-flung friends and family who've expressed interest. Hopefully this will be that. Of course, to do this you have to have a bio and names for your songs.

I'll be rotating these over time and will let you know when the selections change. The three that are currently posted are fairly old, but some new ones will come soon. That's Josh Babcock playing drums on GA and B2B. And I played Matt Twitty's strat on GA. And GA is not about my life.

I've put a little link to the site (http://music.download.com/abeokie) under Linkarrhea. I also welcome feedback on the songs, so long as it is overwhelmingly positive (the ego of the artiste is fragile and must be sheltered so he can continue to create unafraid).

Enjoy!

Your music is good stuff. I enjoyed 4 years of listening to your brother Tom, and sometimes I swear he's hiding out on a song or two of yours, call it genetics or something.

thanks, josiah. i'm sure there's a genetic connection, as we tend to like the same stuff, though we disagree on which pierce pettis album is best. one of these days i'm going to complete work on an album of Tom Okie covers.

Hi Abe!

Don't know if you remember me, but I certainly remember you! A mutual friend of ours mentioned she stumbled across your blog a few days ago, so I thought I'd check it out myself. It's so strange how we lose track of people over the years, even the ones who, at one time, meant so much to us. It's always nice to reconnect with them and know that they are well. This is especially so for me, when I "find" old friends from home, because I have become quite nostalgic in my old age (sometimes 30 feels so old). Thank God for the Internet!

I haven't read everything here, but I plan to. What I have seen so far has really impressed me - and made me laugh. It seems like you are doing so well; for that, I am thankful!

If you are ever in Nashville, Tennessee, please give us a shout!

kristen, i remember you. but i can't remember from what, exactly. was it that summer camp thing with first baptist centerville?

good to hear from you. what's brandon up to these days?

who's our mutual friend?

Posted by: abe at July 22, 2004 12:26 AM

You know, that's a good question! I remember the summer camp thing with my church, but I think I knew you well before then. Probably through other friends like the Noffsingers, Jocelyn, Jennifer Pritchard, Jennifer Fowler, etc., and from having so many friends in choir/drama at school. (By the way, Jennifer P is the "mutual friend" I spoke of.) I also remember y'all came to mine and Jennifer's apartment in Athens a couple of times, for UGA football games.

Wow, I'd forgotten you knew Brandon! I AM getting old! He is very well, actually. I'm quite proud of him. He's been married for 5 years now, and Kristy just gave birth to their second child - a boy named Nate - in May. Mari Cagle, their first, will be 2 in September. They are all moving to Gainesville, FL next weekend because Brandon has been accepted into the Economics PhD program at U of F. He's decided he wants to be a college professor, and he's so excited! I'm excited for him, but I can't believe he went from one of my enemies (GA Tech) to the other (the worst one of all)! I will tell him you asked about him.

Check out the photos section of our family Website for pictures of Brandon and his family.

Anyway, at least you recognized my name!

great recordings...do you choose the genre yourself or is there some sort of program that determines what genre it fits in? Like if there's a certain amount of bass it goes in one category, or if there's a mandolin it goes in another.

lee, it's based on harmonica. if it's regular harmonica, it automatically goes into the rocknroll categories. if it's cross-harp it goes in the americana section.

just kidding. you have to choose from a vast selection of genres. it's a little overwhelming, and makes you ask, 'what is this song?' as opposed to 'what do i want this song to be?'

finally downloaded. is it a backhanded compliment to the "artiste" to say i'm surprised at how good your songs are? oh well. i am. they are.

there's only one problem with "getting away": it ends way before i'm ready for it to. 2:49?? let's do an expanded version of that bad boy... yes, indeedy.
