The first 2 pages of our Intro (Intro!!) to Conducting midterm, which we must conduct in class Tuesday morning.
Yow. Good luck, Abe.
Posted by: gosey at June 30, 2005 06:21 PMthat time signature is ridiculous.
Posted by: amy at June 30, 2005 06:32 PMyes, it starts weird, but then it settles into an easy 11/8 for a couple measures.
chris, do you play an instrument?
Posted by: abe at June 30, 2005 06:34 PMcan't anyone do 7 beat and 11 beat patterns in Greek folk music?
This might be a good opportunity to break out your Greek jokes.

Posted by: Craig at June 30, 2005 06:43 PMWhat methods is the good Dr. teaching? Color-coding seemed pretty popular at my school.
Posted by: b at July 1, 2005 04:02 PMThis shouldn't be any real problem. Just keep the eighth-notes ticking in your head, but don't try to conduct every one. Your prof doesn't want you to conduct eighth-notes, does he (she)? The way you have those measures subdivided should work. A 2/3 pattern should have only two motions, etc. I'm sure you've already got it figured out.
If you were asking me about the instrument, I played the saxophone. Conducting was one of my favorite classes. Haven't done much choral conducting, though.
Posted by: chris at July 2, 2005 03:57 PMb, i'm not sure what you refer to, but we're not learning any color-coding. he says to never practice with a recording, because then you learn to follow, not lead.
chris, i was actually asking chris gosey if he played an instrument. i remeber your kenny-g impersonation well. you're right, it's not that hard to learn the counting, it's just that i have to keep counting, which makes expression and engagement difficult.
