Second Money Quote of the Day

“As our country has gained an honest and steady knowledge about homosexuality, we have learned that it is not a mental illness or a disease or a threat to our families. The real threats to family values are divorce, out-of-wedlock births and infidelity. We all know someone who is gay, and like all of us, gay men and women need to have their relationships recognized in some way.”

-Former Senator Alan Simpson(R-WY).

This is a great comment from someone who I never would have expected it from. What I want to know is where are the moderate republicans on this issue like Olympia Snow, Susan Collins, Arlen Specter, Jack Reed, John McCain, Amo Houghton, and Jack Quinn (I'm sure there are others)? I live in Maine and Collins and Snow, both of whom I have supported in the past, have been silent on this issue. Is partisanship driving their lack of comment or are they too scared to challenge the neo-cons on this? It took another female Republican Maine senator, Margaret Chase Smith, to finally challenge McCarthy in the 50's. I just wish Snow and/or Collins or another prominent Republican would challenge this administration on this or anything for that matter!
