It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

As I was driving towards what would be my final day of work today, I was listening to NPR's "Morning Edition" about the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by Americans. At some point the reporter shared how one of the perpetrators wrote a letter to relatives saying that they didn't know what to do concerning the treatment of prisoners. He researched the Geneva Convention on the Internet.

Now, from what I have gleaned, there are reports that some prisoners were raped, forced to simualate sex acts and possible sodomization with a broomstick.

Now I know that these kids are young, but come on. It doesn't take a genius to know that ramming a broomstick up someone's rear is not a nice thing to do. This soldier knew he was doing wrong and so did all the others.

Maybe the most shocking picture to me is the one of cocky, young woman, cigarette dangling from her mouth, pointing at the gentials of a row of naked Iraqi men. She knew what she was doing.

"I was following orders" did not work in World War II and it will not work now.

It's beginning to look like Rumsfeld at least has known about this since February.
