It's 1980 all Over Again

Sadly, this prediction would have been right on the money had Dean been the nominee. Dean brought big bucks from small donors, an ideological purity that is in stark contrast to Bush (and one that is in the mainstream of a majority of American voters), and a contingent of new volunteer activists that will only marginally help elect John Kerry.

Dean was the only Democratic candidate that had a VIABLE general election strategy to win. Kerry did not and still does not. Ironically, Dean's general election strategy was of no use to him in the primary elections, where having control of the Party machinery at Caucus is critical to victory.

At any rate, this race is John Kerry's to lose and he's doing a bang-up job so far trying to do just that. Let's just pray that this columnist's logic holds and that Kerry ekes out a win.

If not, the struggle against entrenched corporate power must continue. November 2004 is just one battle (and a key one) in the ongoing war.
