New Yahoo Group

I created a new yahoo group today called Independent Republicans. The purpose of the group is to be a place for moderate and independent-minded Republicans to meet one another and chat on various issues. My hope is that something like an Independent Republican agenda for 2004 will result from this. If you want to join, simply click on the Yahoo button below. So, tawk amongst yourselves!

I am a registered voting republican. A veteran (though NOT in combat), a former police officer, and a member of a 'reserve' FEMA disaster team.
This administration took a few months to arm pilots, but years to pass HR218 allowing cops to carry off duty. We are chasing around Iraq, while Bin Laden and his chums are hiding in a different country. We were sold a fairy tale about WMD (to my shame, I bought it). We have allowed due process to be thrown out the window. Our borders are still not secure, I could walk from Mexico to Texas. Just ask the Border Patrol agents. And to top this, Bush tried to cut overtime for working/middle class jobs on wages by calling them 'supervisory'. Anyone with a job more responsible than entry level has some form of supervisory responsibilities. The police sergeant who has to work 50+ hours a week (on wage) should get overtime, just like the patrol officer driving the next police car. A senior cashier at Home Depot deserves the overtime just like the rookie. Overtime is not a reward for the worker. It is a barrier to prevent employers from overworking their staff with no penalty. Watch what this (or any) politician does, NOT what they say.
Despite my strong belief in budget control, I find it necessary to consider leaving the party. This administration hid the costs of prescriptions untill the legislation was past Congress. We cannot run this national budget on a credit card. This administration does not meet my standards of achievement OR honesty. It does not get my personal vote.
I do not see a credible leadership within the Republican Party returning us to the reasoned and thoughtful protection of American interests we saw from Eisenhower. We allow right wing media to attack anyone with a different view as treasonous. (Ann C.) Ridiculous! If the majority of the country rejects our values, we have either not properly explained them; or they have been heard and outvoted. It's called democracy. If we cannot sway votes without venom and name-calling, we WILL lose the very thing we struggle to protect.
I hope John McCain will consider running in 2008. At least he can hire a foreign policy team that can get real help from other nations beyond England. Iceland don't count. They do not even have a military, I believe.
Please forgive errors in spelling. I welcome your considered reply.
