It's nearly one in the morning here after a very long day, so I will just say it looks like Kerry has offered McCain the veep spot and McCain so far has said no. I'm giving this question for you all to discuss. Should McCain take the number two spot and why? What should Kerry do to pursuade him? Here's some reading to get you started:
Posted by Dennis at June 12, 2004 01:41 AMWord is Kerry made an official offer to McCain but that McCain said no. I'm glad that McCain did that, because we'll need his leadership in the GOP when Shrub and his cronies get drummed out.
McCain is a Republican. The worst thing that could happen both to him and to the GOP would be for him to run with Kerry.
I think all this McCain-Kerry talk is fantasy. It won't happen.
Posted by: Michael Kelly at June 14, 2004 08:46 AMIt's still hard for me to believe that McCain would go for this.
I don't think that this would be good for his career,
I think it would make it even more difficult for him to be effective in the Republican party.
I'm not even sure if people would see this as a "unity ticket"
McCain would be better off making another run for the presidency in 2008 or making some other sort of jesture to promote unity.
Posted by: dorsano at June 12, 2004 10:07 PMKerry should definately pick someone from his own party. There are plenty of moderate Democrats to pick from, like Breux, Lincoln, Landrieu, and Lieberman. I personaly think it would be neat if he offered it to Blanche Lincoln. Then the Democrats could say that there party is now the party of Lincoln. LOL :)
Posted by: Jason Stumpner at June 12, 2004 01:47 PMMcCain really needs to work with his own party. Taking the veep spot I think is a tactic to change the makeup of the Senate. McCain would never be given much more to do than attend state funerals, reducing his role in American politics.
