"I was born and raised a mid-Western Republican.
I cannot bring myself to vote for a Democrat."

I believe this statement is a big part of the problem. Too many people vote for the letter after someone’s name, and don't bother looking at the person behind the name. If a democrat will reduce government, then I will vote for a democrat. If Republicans are interested in more government control over our lives, more bureaucracy, and more spending, then I will vote for a democrat. Until there is a Republican who believes in what the Republican party stood for, I will vote for any democrat who does. Call me RINO if you want, but the Republican party abandoned me, I didn't abandon them.

Nancy asked: What the hell is wrong with today's Republican party and the so-called Conservatives?

What's wrong is that more Republicans like you don't vote in the Republican party primaries.

I am SICK about the co-opting of the Republican Party by the "holier-than-thou" religious right!
I was born and raised a mid-Western Republican.
I cannot bring myself to vote for a Democrat. And yet, I AM Pro-Choice (atleast during 1st, 2nd
trimesters), gays should be allowed to do anything they please including getting married, and any other issue that involves people's private lives has no business even being discussed in the political arena. What ever happened to the Republican Party that believed
"less government is better government"!?

I deeply dislike the intrusion of government in
people's personal lives. Where do I belong on the political spectrum?? I strongly belive in the clear separation of Church and State! What
happened to that part of the constitution?
I have no "ax" to grind. I personally am no gay nor do I FAVOR abortion. But until there is 100% fool-proof protection for women who DO NOT want to become pregnant, I believe in every woman's right to make her own decisions about her
body..... These things seem so obvious to me as sensible in a country which proclaims FREEDOM as a primary value. What the hell is wrong with today's Republican party and the so-called Conservatives??? I am truly offended by "laws"
much less Constitutional Amendments to control person LEGAL behavior. We have plenty of laws to deal with anti-social behavior that affects others (ie. ILLEGAL activities) Leave people alone to live their lives and enjoy the freedoms granted to us by the Constitution.
Where can I go to align myself with like-minded Republican?

Dennis,

Another thing I thought I'd mention. I'm a Green Party member now, and we had our convention this year in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, my home state. The reason being is that Wisconsin is the birthplace of the Republican party, and this year is its 150th anniversary!!

Happy 150th Republican party! Its just too bad that the party has become the champion of the very political forces it opposed upon its founding.
