Good Republican Quote, Bad Republican Quote

"She (the governor) supports equal rights and opposes discrimination in any form for any couple."— DENNIS SCHAIN, spokesman for GOP Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell commenting on the governor's willingness to consider supporting civil unions legislation.

"They want to destroy marriage and the family as we know it today. Natural law opposes homosexuality. That is, body parts do not fit. That is worth thinking about."—REV. LOU SHELDON of the Traditional Values Coalition as he announces plans to push an anti-family state constitutional amendment in California.

Joe,

You're certainly right that what we need are statesmen and that those who can should seek to implement their beliefs.

Not everyone though is in a situation where they can get involved in politics. I would argue that it's not hypocritical to participate in the marketplace of ideas by asking questions and disseminating information they think is important, but is part of being an informed consumer of democracy.

Each of you seem to forget the need is for Statesmen - not politicians. Statesmen are by definition individuals who have the better interest of the nation and public at heart, not their own careers.

Lamenting on current affairs without getting involved is hypocritical, so get out there and be productive - see my start-up blog for more info (http://moderateamerican.ebloggy.com/)

Welcome Winston!

You are quite welcome to post here. This is not a site that shuts out differing viewpoints. It is VERY important that we not enclose ourselves in a bubble of ideology and keep ourselves shielded from views we don't like or share. This very problem is what is eating at the Republican Party, and that is a dangerous direction for the party to go in.

This is my first visit to this site, and I am impressed. The posts I've read so far are well reasoned and thought-provoking; the vision of people thinking.

Quite a contrast from Free Republic, where I was kicked off as a Troll for even wanting to start a conversation about non-neocon politics.

I am, it seems, like you but from the other side of the fence. I have been blogging on the Common Ground, Common Sense site now for about a month, and the conversations seem to be amazingly similar.

I would invite you to our site to see if we can find common cause against the reactionary elements of your party and the radical elements of mine. Please join us, and I think you will find at least a comfortable, if not friendly, environment

I would also like to participate on your site, recognizing myself as a guest.
